Community Solar Garden Public Informational Meeting on March 22, 2016

Moorhead Public Service (MPS) invites the public to attend a meeting to learn more about the second Capture The Sun® Community Solar Garden that is being planned for construction this summer between MPS’ existing wind turbines—adjacent to the community solar garden built in 2015.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide additional information about the 2016 Capture The Sun® Community Solar Garden project, answer questions, and provide module ownership agreements to interested customers. You are invited to attend this public informational meeting:

Tuesday, March 22, 2016

7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Moorhead City Hall

First Floor Council Chambers

500 Center Avenue

Moorhead, Minnesota

Meeting Agenda

7:00 p.m.    Welcome and introductions

7:05 p.m.    Capture The Sun® Community Solar Garden project description

7:10 p.m.    Q&A

7:45 p.m.    Distribute module ownership agreements for those interested in owning a solar module in the 2016 Community Solar Garden

Module ownership agreements will be accepted at this meeting on March 22, 2016, with the cost to be applied to the customer’s monthly utility bill from MPS. Agreements can also be submitted during normal business hours—Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—and are available at www.mpsutility.com.

On average, nearly three-fourths of all homes are not suitable for a solar power module due to shading, roof orientation, or other concerns. A community solar garden puts a number of solar modules in one place, a place with good solar exposure, and lets the customer benefit from the electrical power produced, approximately 37 kWh per month per module, as if it was on their own property or building.

Ownership of a solar module in MPS’ 2016 Community Solar Garden has a one-time cost of $480.00, plus annual maintenance expenses, which can be paid by check or applied to the customer’s monthly utility bill from MPS. The cutoff date for module ownership agreements is April 5, 2016.

If you cannot attend this meeting, please contact MPS’ Energy Services Manager Dennis Eisenbraun at 218.477.8018 or visit www.mpsutility.com for additional information.

There will be a strong push to add solar energy to Minnesota’s energy mix in the next few years. As Eisenbraun stated in a report to the Moorhead Public Service Commission, “Community solar gardens are a good idea whose time has come.”

Moorhead Public Service looks forward to exciting times ahead with renewable energy in Moorhead.
