Join Us to Celebrate Public Power Week in Moorhead Ribbon-Cutting on Tuesday, October 8, 2019

For Immediate Release on Monday, October 7, 2019

Moorhead Public Service (MPS) is celebrating Public Power Week, October 6-12, 2019, along with more than 2,000 other community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities that collectively provide electricity to 49 million Americans.

“Public Power Week celebrates the reliable, affordable electricity that Moorhead Public Service provides to our community,” said MPS’ General Manager Bill Schwandt. “Public power puts the people of Moorhead first, and Public Power Week gives us the chance to emphasize the advantages of locally grown, locally owned power to our citizens.”

“Our service is reliable and safe and we take pride in serving our friends and neighbors,” said Schwandt. “Moorhead Public Service is proud to have served Moorhead for over 120 years.”

MPS invites the community to attend the following Public Power Week event:

Tuesday       Chamber Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at MPS’ Capture The Sun® Community

Oct. 8         Solar Garden Project (Addition for 2019)

4:30 pm The Community Solar Garden Project is located at 2200 28th Street North, Moorhead (between MPS’ existing wind turbines).

Following the ribbon-cutting, please join us to see the site up close and to ask questions of staff.

Public Power Week is an annual national event coordinated by the American Public Power Association in Washington, D.C. The American Public Power Association is the voice of not‑for‑profit, community-owned utilities that power 2,000 towns and cities nationwide. The Association represents public power before the federal government to protect the interests of the more than 49 million people that public power utilities serve, and the 93,000 people they employ. It advocates and advises on electricity policy, technology, trends, training, and operations. Its members strengthen their communities by providing superior service, engaging citizens, and instilling pride in community-owned power. More at www.PublicPower.org.
